The City Assessor is responsible for listing, valuing, and classifying all real and person property in the City of Virginia, for tax purposes.  State law defines these and other requirements of the Assessor's Office.

The Assessor's Office physically inspects approximately one-fifth of the properties in the City each year, on a continual basis.  From these inspections and sales ratio studies, the market values of properties are determined.  The classification of a property is determined by the usage (e.g.  residential, commercial, industrial, etc.)

NOTICE TO

VIRGINIA PROPERTY OWNERS

The City Assessor’s office will be visiting properties in the neighborhoods shown in the list below.  The Assessor will have City of Virginia identification and will request permission to view the interior and exterior of your property.

This review is required by State Law (M.S. 273.01) as part of an on-going revaluation program. Inspection of the property will ensure that the property data is accurate and assist the Assessor in estimating a fair and equitable assessment of all properties in the City, for tax purposes. This interior inspection, on the average, will take approximately ten minutes.

Please refer to your real estate tax statement to locate the Plat name and Block number for your property.

If you have any questions, please call the City Assessor’s Office at 748-7500 Monday thru Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
