Emergency Management in the City of VirginiaThe City of Virginia, in conjunction with I.S.D. 706, VRMC and the Department of Public Utilities is in the process of creating an Emergency Operations Plan for the City of Virginia. This plan will be used as a resource guide to instruct City Officials who to call if a disaster (as defined by City Ordinance) were to occur within the City of Virginia. A Guide to Citizen Preparedness (FEMA Publication H-34) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the availability of a new publication to help individuals prepare themselves and their families for disasters. Are You Ready? A Guide to Citizen Preparedness (FEMA Publication H-34) brings together facts on disaster survival techniques, disaster-specific information, and how to prepare for and respond to both natural and man-made disasters. Are You Ready? is designed to help American's take responsibility and get prepared by having a plan in place to protect your family and your home or business. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)Severe Acute Respritory Syndrome (SARS) is an infectious illness that appears to spread primarily by close person-to-person contact, such as in situations in which persons have cared for, lived with, or had direct contact with respiratory secretions and/or body fluids of a person known to be a suspect SARS case. Potential ways in which infections can be transmitted are by close contact including touching the skin of other persons or objects that become contaminated with infections droplets and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth. As of this April 2003, no cases of SARS have been reported in or near the Virginia area.
